Luminous Space
A location-based work exploring visual perception, place, and human presence. Translucent materials, layered text, light, and shadow examine how memory and time become part of a space.
Conceptual Foundation
The project started with an interest in how a place holds traces of human presence. These traces extend beyond physical marks. Memory shapes how people recognize and respond to a place, often without conscious awareness. While photographing and observing the site, several visual elements appeared repeatedly. Reflections, framing, shadow, and depth formed a consistent visual language. Each photograph shifted with my position in the space. These changes showed how perception depends on movement and point of view.
Inspiration & Influence
Material & Process
The installation utilizes mirrors and staggered Plexiglass sheets to manipulate the viewer's experience. Mirrors expand the site’s perceived depth, while the Plexiglass carries text that requires active movement and exploration to be fully read. Because the text is broken up, the viewer has to move around to piece the meaning together. This turns the act of looking into a physical journey where your own reflection and body become part of the work.
The project argues that a space is never truly empty. It gathers layers of presence and history over time. By reassembling perception, the installation prompts reflection on how humans inhabit spaces and how those environments leave lasting imprints on the cognitive system.
"Luminous Space" was exhibited during the open studio at Darat Al Funun in July of 2025.
The installation was acquired by Darat Al Funun Private Collector in 2026.
